SketchUp objects freeze and crash
#1
I have the 3.6 upgrade and a new PC running windows 7 with 20 gb ram and an NVIDIA Quatro 410 card which passes the boot test and render test.

When I import an object from SketchUp It appears on the menu and on location. Sometimes the programme crashes there, it not it invariably crashes when i try to manipulate it in the camera view. Sometimes i get to make one or two adjustments to the size or position before it crashes. Ffen the grass in the location turns solid brown after the import.

If i can 'save' before the crash i do and i reload it and get maybe two or three adjustments before the crash. I have tried other proven SketchUp models and yes, it crashes if they are obj, wrl and 3ds imports via FBX programme!

I am using objects that worked fine in 3.5, though that was of course on a different PC.

Does anyone one else have problems like this since upgrading? Is it the video card on my new system I would be willing to replace the card since Sketchup objects are essential to me, if it is known to cause problems.

I haven't noticed any other other crashes yet.

I have numerous crash reports - I will attach the latest!

Hope someone can help!

In case the upload doesn't work here is the crash report...

Can you give me a specific example of a SketchUp file that causes a crash when or after you import, so I can try it here? You can send me a file, or a download link, at jamesw@frameforge3d.com .

Thank you! Here is a link to one of the cars

I open it in sketchup and save is as a sketchup 7 model.

I seem to be having trouble uploading here! It's been one of those days....

Is that conversion step necessary? The SketchUp Warehouse has an option of downloading it as a sketchup 6 model. Which version did you download and convert?

I imported the sketchup 6 model into FrameForge, and it seems to work OK. It came in too big by a factor of 3 or so, but of course it can be scaled down.

The forum software only allows posting of files with certain extensions.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

I have put version 3.6 on my laptop and all the sketchup objects work fine there.

So I disabled hardware acceleration on my PC and all the sketchup files worked fine!!!!

Switch back to hardware acceleration and any sketchup object causes a crash. Not sure if any other circumstances cause a crash but so far it's only manipulating sketchup objects, and only with hardware acceleration enabled.

Does that indicate a dodgy video card? When i try to update the driver it says the latest driver is installed. Maybe i need to change settings somewhere. Any ideas?

Happiness - I have found another video card - GeForce 210 with 1gb memory - to replace my NVidia 210 with 512mb and bingo!! Every thing works perfectly!

Lesson learnt - should have tried that first.

If anybody wants an NVidia 210 that doesn't like imported Sketchup objects - it will be on ebay in a minute...

I'm glad to hear that you got things working.

For the record, there is nothing fundamentally special about objects imported from SketchUp, except that they often have a higher polygon count than our standard FrameForge objects typically do. That puts more stress on the video card.
