Oil/Jack-Hammer Pump
#1
Hello! Would anyone happen to have already built an Oil Pump or a Jack-Hammer Pump? It's the type of Pump that looks like a horse's head. Thank you in Advance!

Is this the sort of thing?

Its a sketch up file so open Frameforge and drag the file from its folder into the Props window on the right of the frameforge workspace.

Its from http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ and there are lots of useful things there whhich easily import into frameforge

Heres a .3ds version of the pump - I think that should import into FF2...

Of course the Sketchup import IS a version 3 feature only... :)

But if you have the free version of Sketchup, can't you export the object as a .3ds file and use that in version 2?

The FBX to FrameForge converter does have some ability to import .3ds files, but when I tried it on the oil jack above, some of the parts ended up sort of inside out. The SketchUp importer is probably more reliable than importing from .3ds, and has some additional options.

I appreciate the effort, but the Sketchup file nor the .3ds file seems to be able to import. I'm running FrameForge 2, so maybe that's the snag. How can an Oil Jack/Pump be constructed so that it can be imported into FF2? Or is there no going back? Smile

Right, the SketchUp import is new in version 3, and as I said above, import of .3ds seems not too reliable.

If you have the Pro version of SketchUp, I believe it can export in VRML format, which FF2 can import. I have a vague memory that there might be a problem with SketchUp's VRML export, but I may be wrong.

If you're willing to start from scratch in a different modeling program, you could use the free Art of Illusion and export to VRML format.

Or you could upgrade -- we have special upgrade deals going on right now that will expire at the end of the month. As Jim said, I believe Sketchup's VRML export was unreliable...
